Hema goes America
Hema wants to become a global brand and is therefore tapping into a new continent: it intends to open ten stores in Mexico before the end of this year, with the help of its new franchise partners Ensueño Group and Modatelas Group. Cooperation with franchise partners allows the chain to open many stores in a short period of time at an attractive investment level, Hema states.
The first stores will open in Mexico City, and in the following years the chain is set to expand to other states of Mexico. The Central American country is interesting because of its strategic location between North and South America. The chain is already talking about possible expansion to other countries. Hema is active in eleven countries today.
The strong growing Mexican middle class is also an asset for Hema: Mexico has over 120 million inhabitants and its population consists mainly of families. "We expect our typical Hema products to meet the daily needs of Mexican families and consumers. Furthermore, we see enormous opportunities in Mexico due to the size of the country and its strategic location between North and South America", CEO Tjeerd Jegen explains.
